In automotive news, Volvo Car has announced it will double their initial $500 million investment and add an additional 1,900 to its original 2,000 employment estimate. The 1,600 acre Ridgeville, SC plant will produce the company’s S60 sedan.

The Governor says South Carolina is in the running for the new Toyota-Mazda plant, along with 10 other states. The collaboration will require 1,000 acres, 2 assembly lines, and 4,000 workers to produce 300K vehicles each year. The $1.6B plant would open in 2021 building a crossover for Mazda and the Corolla for Toyota, both for the US market.

Charleston, SC Real Estate Market Update - August 2017 Edition

The Summerville real estate market has taken off, with median home prices above the "high water mark" of 2007 (see graph). Many new construction projects are underway including large projects like Nexton, which will cater to new Volvo employees in their Ridgeville plant. 

Travel and Leisure Magazine named Charleston as the best city in the US for the fifth consecutive year and they also named us the 2nd best city in the World. Southern Living magazine named Charleston the #1 Best City in the South. Food and Wine magazine included Charleston in their list of the Top 10 Most Exciting Food Cities in the World.

The dog days of August are here and that means Tax Free Weekend on Aug 4-6.

Solar Eclipse Charleston SCCharleston is getting national attention for the total Solar Eclipse on Aug 21. Solar Eclipse events include Eclipse Baseball Game at Joe Riley Park, an all day program at the Children’s Museum, Citadel Mall is an official NASA viewing location, Total Eclipse of the Art at the Gibbes Museum, a view party at MUSC Health Stadium on Daniel Island, and an eclipse party at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina.

August also means that schools will be starting back and there are some events with free school supplies.

It’s hard to imagine, but half the year is over! July and August are our hottest months and a great time to enjoy the beaches and go boating. Hopefully you already had your air conditioning units serviced, as HVAC contractors get really busy this time of the year...

The Revivalists at Spoleto Festival USA 2017Spoleto Festival USA is almost half way through, but there are still lots of great events to go see, including dance, theater, opera and more. The finale includes a concert by The Revivalists.

The South Carolina Stingrays Hockey team has made it to the Championship Finals of the Kelly Cup.

May is upon us and that brings flowers and Spoleto.  The Spoleto Festival USA is Charleston’s greatest cultural event of the year. 17 days of non-stop world class entertainment.  And the local talent shows off at the same time at Piccolo Spoleto.  This all starts on May 26.  Choose at least 5 events and make some memories.

Spring weather is here and the azaleas are in bloom! The Volvo WTA Open Tennis Tournament is here in Charleston the first week in April. The Tennis Channel is having full coverage all week and they are making a big deal out of this. It’s come to be a very respected tournament and the start of the clay season.

BBQ, Fireworks and Beach are what it's about in July! July is a month for vacations, tourists coming to visit the Holy City, and locals leaving to beat the heat.

But summer heat means great produce! Charleston has some great local farmer's markets where you can get yummy fruits and veggies, shrimp and boiled peanuts.

The most popular one is probably the one at Marion Square downtown each Saturday morning. It's June here in the Lowcountry and things are starting to heat up. Spoleto Festival USA is still going on for the next couple of weeks, over 100 events between Spoleto (international) and Piccolo Spoleto (local artists only), visit their websites for a full list; www.spoletousa.org or www.piccolospoleto.com.

It's a good thing there is so much to do in Charleston since there are about 43 people moving to the Charleston Metro Area each day!

Events, News & Activities in Charleston, SC - May 2016 Edition

Spoleto Festival 2016May is here and the spring weather has been spectacular. May is a big month for Charleston because of the Spoleto Festival USA and it’s sister festival the Piccolo Spoleto. These start in late May and run until June 12.

These festivals offer a vast array of events and are the greatest cultural activity in Charleston SC each year.

The Greek Festival is also another highlight for May.

Kudos to some of our local high schools that won awards from US News and World Report. Academic Magnet High School and Charleston School of the Arts were awarded Gold Medals while Wando High School in Mt Pleasant received a Silver Medal.

Summerville just had a boom weekend with its Flowertown Festival. What a great month to take a stroll through Middleton or Magnolia Gardens. It’s truly a must see. We just had 35,000 people in town for the Cooper River Bridge Run. It was a little rainy, but that didn’t really seem to bother anyone. The big events this month are the WTA Volveo Car Open tennis tournament at Daniel Island that goes from April 2-10 and all the house and garden tours. The 69th Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens goes on all month until the 25th. And the farmer’s mark...

What's Happening in Charleston, SC? There is always lots to do here in the "Holy City". We’ve had a little winter weather in Charleston, but it’s now in the 60's and 70’s for the first week in February, which is usually our coldest month, but it’s not shaping out to be - maybe it is due to global warming..?
The big event of the month is the Southeastern Wildlife Expo, but there are many other things to do in Charleston in February.  Oyster roasts are in season, and the oysters are fabulous!
