Recycling

There’s been a lot of great news about the Charleston area recently and we can only graze the surface. This month, we’re highlighting the environment, requests for public input, and industry expansions and new arrivals. We hope you’ll follow the links provided to find out more about the topics that interest you.

Regarding the environment, we’re happy to report that South Carolina - and Charleston - are recognized as regional leaders in proactive climate planning and that there’s a new app called Recycle Coach available to help Charleston County residents with recycling.

As for requests for public input, public meetings and open houses have been held and/or are planned regarding the Rethink Folly Road project, initial plans to improve the USPS North Charleston processing facility, the Charleston County sales tax and its future use, as well as the future of Downtown Charleston’s Union Pier.

Lastly, many companies will be expanding or coming to the Charleston area. Some to note include Google’s plans to expand into Dorchester County to develop a new data center campus, logistics tech company Gnosis Freight’s plans for further expansion in Charleston County, defense contractor Leonardo DRS’ plans for a $120 million manufacturing and testing facility for its next-generation propulsion system for naval applications in Goose Creek - it’s first in the state, and Evonik’s plans to expand production of precipitated silica at its Goose Creek plant largely to support SC’s 12 tire manufacturing plants which make the Palmetto State the country’s leading tire exporter. Facilities are also being developed to accommodate the area’s growing industrial activity. For example, Port 95, a $100 million industrial park, is nearing completion in Dorchester County.
