Public Schools
By law, REALTORS are prevented from offering advice about the quality of public schools (to prevent steering). However, the South Carolina Department of Education performs an annual assessment of each school and issues annual REPORT CARDS which are publicly available (view report cards for the 4 school districts listed below here).
The Charleston Metro Tri-County area is divided into four school districts:
- Berkeley County
- Charleston County
- Dorchester II
- Dorchester IV
Although South Carolina ranks low in quality of education nationwide, there are also some excellent public schools. For example, Charleston County's Academic Magnet High School was ranked as the 8th BEST PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. in 2016.
