The Charleston area economy is doing well! Here's some of the latest news...

Air Canada is adding Charleston as a nonstop destination from Toronto, Canada.  The daily international service between Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) begins March 28, 2024. It will be the state’s only daily nonstop international flight.

Contract agreements for the Battery Park riverfront development, a 50-acre project in North Charleston, have recently gained approval from the City Council. The collaborative effort of Jamestown, Weaver Capital Partners, and WECCO Development will play a crucial role in the city's initiative to revitalize the former Charleston Naval Complex. This transformation aims to turn the area into a dynamic, mixed-use district and a key regional destination. In adherence to the "Battery Park Master Plan," the development will feature more than 1,400 residential units and a diverse range of commercial spaces that contribute to both local and regional economic growth. The overarching goal is to enhance the quality of life for residents in the vicinity, promote equitable and sustainable economic development, bolster community health and wellness, foster social cohesion, and strengthen community bonds.

With the recent removal of the "Certificate of Need" regulatory process by the state legislature, health systems in the Charleston area are expecting an influx of new competitors intending to establish ambulatory and urgent care centers. This change signifies a shift away from the previous requirements that were mandatory for constructing most healthcare facilities in the region.  E4H Environments for Health Architecture, the leading architecture firm exclusively focused on the design of healthcare and health science and technology facilities, has recently expanded its presence with the establishment of a new office in Charleston. This marks the firm's 11th office location.
