JULY NEWSLETTER

This coming August has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays. So get out there in Charleston and enjoy your weekends! Need to buy anything? The Annual Tax Free Weekend starts on the first Friday of August.

The best way to enjoy the Dog Days of August is at the beach or at a baseball game with the Charleston Riverdogs. Keep cool at the Riverdogs baseballbgames on the 3rd and the 17th, which are Seersucker at the Joe nights. Seersucker and Madras are the clothing of choice during the dog days.

Folly Beach, Isle of Palms and Kiawah were named among the top 10 Southern Beaches by USA Today. I would suggest lunch at Rita’s on Folly, Poe’s on Sullivans Island, or the Ocean Course at Kiawah.

Loretta Lynn will be at Boone Hall on the 22nd and Crosby, Stills, and Nash will at the North Charleston Coliseum on the 12th. The Lowcountry Jazz Festival starts on the 28th. The Southern Bridal Show is at the Convention Center on the 17th.

Travel and Leisure Magazine has once again named Charleston as the best city in the US and Canada and the 2nd best city in the world. CNBC says that South Carolina is the 10th Cheapest State to live in. And Condé Nast readers voted Charleston in the Top 5 Food Cities in the US. New restaurants are popping up on a daily basis! Stay aware of all Charleston dining by checking out the local Eater Nation food blog.

Our real estate market continues to surge forward. Through the first half of the year, we were up 6% in the number of transactions over 2013 and will possibly sell over 14,000 homes in 2014 in the Charleston MLS. Our median sales price is also up about 9% over 2013 and, at $220,000, is now above the peak in 2007. Weekly buying activity is at a record pace. Most Realtors are saying that they’ve never seen so many people moving into Charleston.

The completion of Hwy 526 through Johns Island must be a done deal now, given that builders are planning to build about 1000 new homes on Johns Island starting this year.

Mt. Pleasant, James Island and West Ashley continue to be the most popular areas to live in because of their proximity to the beaches and Downtown Historic Charleston. Summerville, Ladson and Goose Creek remain the best value for those moving to Charleston. You can still buy a nice new home in Summerville or Goose Creek for under $100/square foot.
