The Town of Mount Pleasant, SC recently published their “2011 Demographic Report” which has some interesting facts which make this town:

Growing and aging: Population has increased from 47,000 to 67,000 (42%) in the last 10 years! Population over 25 years of age has increased to 47,000 from 32,000 (46.8%)
Smaller households: # of Households has increased from 20,000 to 30,000 (50%)
Shifting Racial Diversity:

  • White 91.3% (up from 90.2% in 2000)
  • African American 5.1% (down from 7.3% in 2000)
  • Asian 1.6% (up from 1.2% in 2000)
  • Other 0.8%

More Educated: 61.8% of the population 25 and over has a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared to 52.6% in 2000.
Wealthier: Median Household Income Went Up from $61K in 2000 to $74,000 in 2010
Fast Real Estate Appreciation: Median Home Value shifted from $185,500 in 2000 to $357,700 in 2010 (owner-occupied)
