GOOGLE INVESTING AN ADDITIONAL $600 MILLION IN ITS BERKELEY COUNTY OPERATIONS

Google today confirmed plans to further expand its existing campus in Berkeley County, marking the 10-year anniversary of its data center at the Mount Holly Commerce Park. The expansion is projected to bring approximately $600 million of additional capital investment. With this new announcement, Google’s total investment in Berkeley County will reach approximately $2.4 billion.

MUSC, SIEMENS WILL FORMALLY PARTNER, AIM TO USE AI TO CHANGE PATIENT EXPERIENCE

The president of the Medical University of South Carolina on Monday called today’s health care system “fractured,” “broken,” “wasteful” and “duplicative.” Then he announced a new partnership he hopes will upend all of that.

MUSC is embarking on a 10-year partnership with Siemens, the industrial manufacturing giant. MUSC and Siemens executives announced the agreement to MUSC staff and local leaders in a packed auditorium Monday morning.

They told the audience they want to use Siemens’ artificial intelligence capabilities across the system. One application will be in predicting the best ways to treat each person using information about how countless other patients fared.

STEM PREMIER GETS $9M INVESTMENT FROM K12 INC.

STEM Premier, a Mount Pleasant-based online platform focused on connecting students and workers with jobs, has garnered a $9 million strategic investment from K12 Inc., an online curriculum provider.

The STEM platform is an online recruiting tool. It allows students to create “talent profiles” for their career paths and to highlight their skills. Educators can use it to recruit students to their schools, and employers can use it to find future workers. STEM Premier has more than 370,000 talent profiles from more than 19,000 schools across the country, the release said.

STEM Premier’s platform will be incorporated into K12’s nationwide Career Technical Education programs, according to a news release. The partnership will help match students with careers in health care, IT, construction and manufacturing.
