Charleston Metro Area Sees 2nd Highest Job Growth in Nation in 2022
As shown by recent data from 2022, Charleston and North Charleston Metro saw a 6.6% increase in employment last year. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, that makes it one of the largest over-the-year percentage increases in the nation! Despite growing worries of a recession, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce is anticipating “nearly 36,000 new jobs by the end of 2026.” Read more here and here


“Navy Base Redevelopment District” to Join New Pedestrian Bridge
New development plans proposed by the City of North Charleston for the former Navy Base could bring new single- and multi-family homes, parks, walking trails, office buildings, retail space, and more. The 70-acre site of the project lays right at the foot of the newly-constructed Battery Park Pedestrian Bridge, which was recently ranked 7th on Architectural Digest’s “Most Beautiful Elevated Walkways Through Nature” list. Avery Research Center Receives Largest-ever Grant
The College of Charleston’s Avery Research Center of African American History and Culture has just been awarded its biggest donation from the Mellon Foundation. The generous $2 million grant is meant to help the research center “explore and share new and rich cultural histories” and “broaden the reach of its archival collections through training/professional development and community outreach”, according to the College of Charleston Library. The Center is recognized by scholars as having one of the country’s most significant collections of its kind. Read more here and here
