Public Schools
By law, REALTORS are prevented from offering advice about the quality of public schools (to prevent steering). However, the South Carolina Department of Education performs an annual assessment of each school and issues annual REPORT CARDS which are publicly available.
The Charleston Metro Tri-County area is divided into four school districts:
- Berkeley County - REPORT CARDS
- Charleston County - REPORT CARDS
- Dorchester II - REPORT CARDS
- Dorchester IV - REPORT CARDS
Although South Carolina ranks low in quality of education nationwide, there are also some excellent public schools. For example, Charleston County's Academic Magnet High School was ranked in 2008 and 2009 as the 7th BEST PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL in the nation by Newsweek Magazine and the 9th Best Public High School by U.S. News.
